Safety Railing FAQs

What type of surfaces will Skylight Screens work on?

Skylight screens can be designed to work with many forms of skylights and on many roof surfaces including curb, standing seam, and corrugated.

What are the Skylight Screens made of?

Skylight screens are made using rigid galvanized carbon steel or 304 stainless steel and are built to withstand rain, snow, ice, wind, and heat better than other types of building materials.

Do Skylight Screens penetrate the roof surface?

Our Skylight Screens are non-penetrating and consist of aluminum rails and mesh forming a cage-like structure around each skylight that clamps around the retaining frame of the skylight. We recommend avoiding skylight screens that require fasteners to penetrate the frame of the skylight as this could cause a leak issue.

What skylight cannot have a screen installed over it?

Some skylights are designed to open or vent in the event of a fire. A FlexDome Guardrail solution should be used in this scenario where a screen may affect the performance of an opening skylight.

Are Skylight Screens permanent? How long do they last?

Skylight screens are intended to be permanent with proper maintenance. We recommend Skylight Screens that do not penetrate the retaining frame of the skylight; this reduces risk of moisture intrusion.

How long does it take to install a Skylight Screen?

Skylight screens are easy to install in a matter of minutes. Depending on the type of skylight, any installation of a skylight screen can take between 15 and 30 minutes by 2 workers without any special training or tools.
